Our Veteran Autobiography group, at the VA West Los Angeles, provides a supportive space for Veterans to share and preserve the stories of their lives in their own words. Through guided writing or other forms of expression, discussion, and peer encouragement, participants reflect on their personal journeys, from service experiences to life beyond the uniform. The group’s goal is to help Veterans honor their past, build connections, and create lasting narratives for their families and communities.
We are working with the UCLA|VA Family Wellbeing Center to find a Veteran to facilitate the Veteran Autobiography Group. The facilitator will create a welcoming space, encourage storytelling, and help participants capture their life experiences in writing and other preferred forms of expression. The ideal candidate will be a Veteran with experience running and supporting groups, with the ability to provide a suitable curriculum for the Vets.
The 60-90 minute group will take place weekly on a weekday. This is an hourly, contract position with possibility of a travel stipend.
For future opportunities, we are also seeking creative arts therapists with mental health training and experience working with veterans or highly vulnerable populations.
If you are interested, please send your resume, a cover letter with a short description of your program ideas or relevant experience that might not be fully reflected in your resume, and any video clips of your work to Arts & Healing Initiative’s Community Initiatives Manager, Christine Manley Martinez at christine@artsandhealinginitiative.org. Please also cc Tom Babayan, Director of UCLA|VA Family Wellbeing Center, at tbabayan@mednet.ucla.edu on your emailed submission.
